Harry Hampshire came to Panto!
This week we had a very special Christmas visitor – Harry Hampshire!
He came to the theatre to see our panto, Dick Whittington – about a man who seeks his fame and fortune in London, ravaged by the sinister King Rat and his rabble of Revolting Rodents.
Harry said hello to our Cafe Bar manager, Justin, then sat down for a warming cup of tea – and a mince pie, which was gone in a blink of an eye – and a read of our panto programme, featuring cast and crew biographies, and fun kids’ activities.
Then, before the show, he got to meet Dick Whittington (played by Ed Thorpe), Dame Dolly Dumpling (Julian Eardley), King Rat (Kristopher Milnes), The Cat (Jessie Angell), Alice Fitzwarren (Joanna Brown), Fairy Bow Bells (Libby Gore) and Alderman – or is it Captain – or Sultan (played by Jon Bonner, a fabulous trumpet player to boot).
They took some selfies and Harry was very brave – he wasn’t scared of King Rat one bit!
After, Harry said he enjoyed the show immensely, lots of laughing and boos, singing to original catchy songs. He grinned from ear to ear from start to finish.
Dick Whittington runs from now until Sunday 5 January 2020. It comes from the same creative team behind last year’s Beauty and the Beast – writer, lyricist and director James Barry, and composer and musical supervisor Simon Slater – who this year were nominated in the Musical Achievement category at the Great British Pantomime Awards!
